Aftercare
Buzz Cut SMP Aftercare Instructions
Your scalp will be sensitive for a few days after your procedure. Scalp micropigmentation is minimally invasive, but following these instructions closely protects your results and helps your skin heal.
Buzz Cut Procedures
- What to Expect During Healing — Mild redness, tenderness, dryness, itching, and light flaking are normal during the healing process. Your scalp micropigmentation may initially appear darker or more pronounced immediately following treatment. The color will gradually soften and lighten as the scalp heals over the next 2-3 weeks. Do not judge the final color or density of your SMP until the scalp has completely healed.
- Redness — Scalp redness typically subsides within 24–48 hours.
- Washing Hair & Scalp — Do not wet the treated area for 3 days after your procedure. This allows the skin to begin healing and helps minimize irritation and premature pigment loss.
- ✓ Days 0–3: Keep the scalp completely dry.
- ✓ Days 4–7: Gently wash once daily with the provided shampoo. Do not scrub or aggressively rub the treated area.
- ✓ Day 8 onward: Resume your normal shampooing routine if the scalp is healing normally.
- Flaking & Micro-Scabs — Tiny dark micro-scabs or light flaking may occur during the first 7–10 days. This is a normal part of healing. Do not pick, scratch, or peel the area. Allow any flaking or micro-scabs to shed naturally.
- Sweating & Activities — Avoid excessive sweating for 3 days. Avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and similar activities for 7 days.
- Haircuts — You may carefully use clean electric clippers after 3 days. Avoid going over areas that are still irritated, tender, or scabbed. Do not use a razor blade on the treated scalp until it is completely healed. For the most natural appearance, we recommend maintaining your hair at the appropriate length, typically trimming every 3–5 days. We recommend the Remington HC-4250 Shortcut Pro Clippers. For a closer cut, we recommend the Pitbull Platinum by Skull Shaver.
- Moisturizing — Beginning the day after your procedure, you may apply a very thin layer of the provided moisturizer as needed. Do not over-moisturize the scalp.
- Avoid Chemicals — Avoid products that could irritate the scalp for 7 days. If you use Minoxidil (Rogaine), discontinue use for 3 weeks after your procedure and for 7 days before any touch-up appointment.
- Touching & Scratching — Always wash your hands before touching your scalp. If the scalp becomes itchy, gently pat or lightly rub the area rather than scratching. Continue to avoid scratching for 7 days.
- Scalp Shine — Scalp shine is common during healing and typically subsides within 7–14 days. If shine remains a concern, we recommend Zero Shine 2.0 or Zero Shine 2.0 with SPF.
- Sun Exposure & Sunscreen — For the first 14 days, avoid direct sun exposure to the treated scalp. If outdoors, wear a clean, loose-fitting hat. After 14 days, once the scalp is fully healed, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen whenever the scalp is exposed to the sun. Continued sun protection is strongly recommended long-term to help preserve your SMP and minimize premature fading.
- When to Seek Medical Care — Contact Scalpworx and seek medical attention if you experience increasing redness, significant swelling, worsening pain, unusual warmth, pus or drainage, red streaking, or fever.
